A student of Albert Attenelle in Barcelona, Jordi Torrent continued his studies in the Netherlands with Michael Davidson and in the United States with Emile Naoumoff, earning a Master’s degree in piano at Indiana University, Bloomington.
Repertoire pianist at the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, he collaborates with ensembles such as the Orquestra Simfònica de Barcelona i Nacional de Catalunya, Orquestra Camera Musicae orchestra and the contemporary music ensemble Grup XXI. His performing and teaching have taken him to Europe, America and Asia, and recently as far afield as the universities of Shenyang and Guangzhou, China.
Specializing in the repertoire with flute, he has participated in numerous international conventions: Kansas City (2007), Albuquerque (2008), Paris and Barcelona (2012), Toronto and New Orleans (2013). He also appeared in the Beijing-Nicolet (2006) and Kobe (2009) international flute competitions. He has appeared in concert with flautists and piccolists Jean-Louis Beaumadier, Jean-Michel Tanguy, Tadeu Coelho, Thomas Robertello, Nicola Mazanti, Michel Bellavance, etc. He has worked with composers such as George Crumb, Lukas Foss, Shulamit Ran, and Chen Yi.
